✅ SOLVED Stumper of an item

My 6-year old thinks this item is a "smushed shotgun shell." I'm not so sure.

I think it is worth a post given the location it was found: Known Civil War camp, under an old, uprooted oak tree.

Besides, eh, nothing here, my initial reaction was rosehead of an old nail, but who knows.

It registered 5c, PT, 36 on the detector.

could it be a smushed fired copper jacket modern bullet? perhaps a hollow point (based on the little dot of copper on the flat side).

It does look like a copper jacketed bullet.
The "cup" base on the rear is fractured. Usually that stays intact.

Comparing the size to the penny it appears to be a .40 auto copper jacketed bullet.
