Found by me in Henry County Alabama, a rare material for the area (for me at least). This and a small bolen are all I found of this type.

That is nice material. Any idea what it is called? Similar colors to Reeds Spring flint from SW MO except for the white. Gary

I'll post a picture of the bolen made from the same type material tonight...

Nice one. Kinda like a hornstone or maybe fort payne with another material mixed in. Looks sharp.

Here's a picture of the little bolen bevel made of the same type material.

Nice material. Question for you guys, so to be considered a beveled edge, I can see where it is angling sharply down to get to the edge. Is there a certain thickness or how to determine if it is considered a beveled edge? Does that question make sense? Someone asked on a point I posted a while back if it was beveled...just trying to figure out how to recognize. I see the thick side and how it makes the edge. I’m guessing it’s a sharp cut down to edge as opposed to gradually making it. Probably doesn’t make sense, not sure about how I’m wording my question. Explain science of ‘beveled’ as applied to points. Thanks in advance

A point will take on a beveled appearance as it is sharpened on the same side of each face (i.e. left side or right side). If you look at it from tip down, you will see the beveling more clearly. I don't believe it has much to do with how thick it is, just the sharp angle that makes the beveled, cutting edge as you stated. My understanding is this was done to conserve material and make the piece last longer. Hope this helps.
