Sunken Treasure Location? Tips ????

My Friend Cornelius is a wealth of Knowledge. After reading his thread about the gold bars, I thought it would be interesting to start a post about potential treasure sites. I know that most of us are closed mouthed about locations and I believe that is the way it should be. However, if you don't ask how I came up with :icon_pirat: this information, I will share it and hope that if anyone else has any sites to add, I sure it will be appreciated by all.

Rattlesnake Key, Florida. East Coast in the Keys. Near Key Largo. Without going into a great deal of back round information. I will say that I was told a number of years ago, about another old man that lived on Rattlesnake Key. It was said that when he needed supplies, he would trade old gold coins for these supplies. ( This was back in the 1900's).
On the N.E. end of Rattlesnake Key about 100 feet from shore, there are many, many non-ferrous objects lying on the bottom under the sand.
Don't ask me how I know, but I do. They could be Gold Coins, Silver Coins or old Beer Cans. I honestly don't know what the non-ferrous objects are, but I can tell you that on the N.E. side of the Key is a small waterway that goes in a short distance. Several years ago, I did see an Old Wooden Timber from a very old ship pushed up into the mangroves at that location.
Treasure or Trash ?? I have no idea, but it could be an Adventure for someone.

That is very good information Oldman. I have heard that story before as well.

The one caveat I would add is...that area is part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

saltdog1733, What you say about the area is 100% correct. That is one reason why I said, I wouldn't say how I know there are non-ferrous objects laying on the bottom, about 100 feet from shore in about 4 feet of water. I can tell you that the readings for the non-ferrous objects extend several hundred feet along the shore line and the objects are covered by sand. :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat:

Hmmm...Been looking for somewhere to test my "booster line" duster...can't really fill a swimming pool with sand on the bottom...Keys are pretty calm...ya know, ya just can't use blowers effectively in shallow waters and I've always envisioned a............................................. as an effective way of checking the shallows...just a little equipment experiment...not salvaging or nothing... :icon_pirat:

Shawmen, I heard from a little bird that there are both large and small non-ferrous objects at that location off of Rattlesnake Key. I was told that someone used a 1 meter coil from a pulse star ll and had non-ferrous readings ( which would not pick up coin size objects. ) I also heard that readings were found with with a pulse star ll with a 10 inch coil. I will tell you that I do know that a large wooden beam was seen by me in the mangroves near what I will term a creek, which is located about 150 to 200 yards west of the N.E. tip of Rattlesnake Key. I will not confirm the pulse star reading as that may not be allowed by the authorities. :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: Good luck. Dell might be able to confirm a reading from a distance with his equipment, if he has the time or inclination to look at the site.

Apparently there is more then 1 Rattlesnake Key in Florida. Here is a link with a map of the one in Monroe Co. that I mentioned in my post.

This is the one he's talking about. Has the creek just below the green arrow, and a wreck just north of the green arrow. The wreck seems to be an old barge but not sure. Here are the coordinates to the barge: 25.171583,-80.354202. Here are the coordinates to the creek: 25.169783,-80.353838.

Nice post. Actually I think the indentation about 200 yards east of your arrow is where the old ships timber is and the start of where the non- ferrous objects were. I think the non-ferrous readings went as far as where the creek with your arrow is. Actually I think there are 2 wrecks out to the north, but I don't believe the old wooden timber came from the barge, I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat:
