SUPER NEAT CREEK FINDS

Check out these old glass bottles that I found in my favorite creek. #1 is an old medicine bottle. If you look closely at one of the photos, you can see what's left of the original cork lodged in the bottle. It reads "THE E.E. SUTHERLAND MEDICINE CO PADUCAH, KY. Anyone know how old it might be? #2 is one of my favorite things. It was buried in the sand under about 1' of water. It looks like an old bottle that would hold medicine or some other liquid. (1 and 2 were found in close proximity). Of course, it was full of sand. I threw it in my pack and took it home. Sat it outside. A few days later, I noticed a couple of grass sprigs starting to come up. I began to care for it, watering it every day and such. A few weeks later, I had a beautiful array of wild grasses growing! It has become a favorite plant of my wife and I. #3 is also a favorite. It was found a couple of days later on the downstream walk. Ever seen a complete plant ecosystem contained and self-sustained in a sealed glass jar? Now you have! It's pretty amazing, actually. I had to get up out of the creek to go around a deep hole, when I stumbled up on this oddity. It looks like a pretty old jar. The lid is rusted shut. It looks to contain a variety of mosses and ferns. You just never know what you'll find!!!! HH!

I started out by digging old bottles out of creeks and farm dumps when I was 12.

I really like this piece any idea the age or original use?
Looks like part of the top lip is missing . . . or is it just the photograph?

Those are nice, but not as nice as the indian artifacts you're finding
The medicine dates from about 1900 - 1910. The brown bottle with the wide mouth looks like a snuff bottle.

Pretty cool. #2 is definitely a snuff bottle. Same style has been in use for many years.

Thanks for all the input, folks! I actually have five more of these snuff bottles. They are in pretty good shape. All but one were found in the same creek system. I love this hobby!!
