I think a suspender clasp is the most reasonable guess, but could the military ever have issued such an ornate accessory?

Yup, and thats a nice one. I too have not seen one like it. Pretty cool. They often have a patent date stamped on them....maybe take a closer look.


Patent info was probably on the bar which is missing..
