Got the invite to meet up with pa dirt-nc sand and Steve of PA on a cellar hole spot they have been hitting.

Was my first tnet member group hunt and it really does break up the monotony of digging by yourself! I figured I'd stay to a confined area and try to go slow and possibly eek out something that had been missed on the side that produced a few coins in the past. Got the hang of the soil after a few hot rocks and .22 shells+shotgun rounds......ok maybe more than a few! Posted up the shotgun shells so they know I wasn't golfing and really was digging! Lol. Was able to dig a few repeatable mid tones that ended up being keepers. There was one amazing signal that made my heart skip a beat. Was a perfect US copper signal and when it was recovered it ended up being a nice brass buckle. No copper but I'll take it. Not long after pa dirt NC sand snagged his sweet merc dime. Steve was on the other side of the cellar most of the time so I didn't get to see too much of his progress but he seemed to do pretty well.

The last mid tone ended up being a neat kids toy. Don't see too many of them stamped made in the USA anymore. Time was up and I had to go. Wife gave the go ahead to hit one other spot I got closer to home. Was able to get an hour or so in and dug a couple wheats, buttons, miner check tags, perfume bottle, suspender clip (for some reason not in the pic) and a nice pair of sterling cufflinks.

kind of stumped on the age of these as the shape says early but the stamped silver seems a little later? If anyone could help dating them it would be awesome. Thanks for looking and good luck everyone.

Very nice...looks like a productive hunt all around! Congrats on getting out on a hunt with the gang...great save on those cuff links...Ddf

You got the best lead soldier out of that place yet. The only one that hasn't lost his head!

The cufflinks you got at the other site are definitely 1750-1780 or thereabouts IMO based on the style and construction. The fact that you have found cut Spanish silver and a KG II there helps support that date. But I must say I have never seen an octagonal silver cufflink with sterling stamped on the back. These were most likely imported from Great Britain.

Your nearly complete soldier is a Barclay #778 "Officer with gas mask and cast helmet", circa 1936-1942. Cheers! Sub 8-)

That lead soldier cleaned up nicely. Very cool figure. The cufflinks are sweet for sure. Fun to finally meet and once the white stuff goes away we'll have to get out again. I'm not going to let the video idea fade away, just need the right site. Congrats!

Very cool little soldier!

I'm going to say these cuff-links mirror an earlier age. A lot of the silver types from the 18th C were imported from the UK. A sterling mark is not UK & was also not used in the 18th C.
Also, although the construction looks similar, the 18th C examples have a more squared off single connecting loop. Lastly the design looks early 20th C & thats what I'm going with.

That fits in with the early 1900's wheats and the miner tags too. Thanks for that info Crusader.

Congratulations on the nice finds! :occasion14:
