had an early morning hunt before work at a friends house in the city. The brown great seal button and the Hoover campaign token I dug at Craig's house the night before when he invited me over for a night hunt ;D. The other gold-gilted button I dug this morning and had no idea it even was gilted until I got home and ran it under water. It turned out real nice. Other than that, 7 wheats (1911 oldest) a 44 merc, a silver war nickel, a ring, a naughty token :o and a few cool relics. had fun for sure, thanks for looking.

Nice digs! That great seal is in beautiful shape! Well done!

Very nice merc, war nickel, Congrats!

I especially like the Hoover coin, Nice Digs.

Good luck,
HH.

Them are some excellent finds Postal  them places you went definitely got some history behind them, congrats on a bunch of nice finds. I got one of them great seal button's 2 summers back from an ash pit in a park that was started here in town in 1920 that was covered in red paint and after I removed the paint it turned out to be about as perfect specimen as you could ask.

Great hunt Griff and nice relics and coins all around. But, "tails you lose?" huh?

Wow! Great Hunt!

Great Seal is very cool. Always love finding Mercs (still about the best coin design in my book).
War Nickels are always cool too.

The token is a riot! Still confused by the "tails you lose" too. Just doesn't appear to be a real loss.

Great Hunt!
Congrats.
Mark

That token is cool. Love the oddball stuff folks find. Ya never know what will pop outta the ground. Fun stuff.

Nice digs PG. Love them mercs. That had to be a fun bunch of digging with all the variety. WTG, hh dan

All the stuff you dug is cool. That's the stuff I love digging. The button might be worth something.

Sweet digs PG. :icon_thumleft: Have you figured out who is on the medalliaon yet? Don't you love how many keys you find?

I know I have a ton of keys, but only one skeleton key which is one of my favorite relics.
also, very interesting about the medallion I was just reading about it...

The inscription you are talking about can be found on a Benedictine medal. The words are Latin for Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur' meaning May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death.

Usually on the medal you will find the letters 'C S S M L' and 'N D S M D' which are the initials of the Latin prayer that says Crux sacra sit mihi lux. Nunquam draco sit mihi dux. which translates to May the holy cross be my light, may the dragon never be my guide.

Above the cross you will see the word Pax meaning peace.

Surrounding these you usually find the letters 'S M Q L I V B' and 'V R S N S M V' which translates to the Latin Vade retro Satana! Nunquam suade mihi vana. Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas. meaning Begone Satan! Never tempt me with your vanities! What you offer me is evil. Drink the poison yourself.

thanks everyone for the nice comments, I love this hobby and recovering the historical things I feel is very rewarding to he soul. I've been thinking about putting together a display for the museum after this season. HH all
