Hi all,

I've noticed in some videos people are able to switch the headphones on or off so you can have the internal speaker used - so you can have someone have a listen to a signal without fussing with your headset...

Is this a mod you can do with the stock headphones? Or another brand that comes with that option

Thanks in advance

Nothing huh?

Headphones are a personal choice. Some, like me prefer to hear as much as I can. Others don't want to be bothered, or like the ability to hear their surroundings and just use the speaker.

That being said, Garrett makes an adapter (~$40) for the ATP that converts it to a 1/4" stereo plug. Mind you, the ATP is still waterproof, but that 1/4" connection is not.

Thanks for the reply.

It seems like I've seen a few videos where they are using stock headphones to do it, maybe I'm wrong

At the 20:15 mark is an example

Steve works for Garrett, I think he has a custom switch for recording purposes.

Hello BeepBeep13,

As “Auriemma” stated you could buy the Garrett conversion cable then use a switchable headphone set. I will look into the problem when I have some spare time and find an old headphone set to take apart an experiment. The connection between the headphones and machine is electrical; therefore placing a switch (SPST or DPDT) on the ear cup or in the connecting cable (easier) should allow the separation between the two. It is not a difficult task! But, it may be easier just to purchase a professionally made set unless you are handy with electronics.

Regards,

I see, thanks for the clarification Professor. So he basically wired in a switch to cut the connection to the headset?

Maybe that's something I could do with the stock headset

Sorry you could not get me to dig in that mud soup.

This guy did it to his stock headphones and kind of explains how at the 4:50 mark

Nice find. Thanks for sharing that, that's a mod I would probably do to the stock headphones
