I have been hunting at a site for around two weeks now and I have found some old relics, 1803 Large Cent, and a 1844 Canadian Half Penny. Today I went out for a few hours and was not finding that much and I got a nice hit on my Ace 250. I dug around seven or eight inches and this copper object popped out. It looks like a sword belt clip but I am not sure. Any help with the ID would be nice.

If i'm not mistaken it's called a Gag Loop.Horse related.

Civilman1 is correct. Specifically, it is called a gag loop harness swivel, from a horse's bridle-&-bit assembly, dating from the late-1800s through early-1900s. You'll see it in the diagram below, from the 1907 Pierson & Hough horse-equipment catalog.
