I had a few days off and the weather was too crappy to dive the ocean so I went dirt diving instead. I went to a few colonial sites plus I did a little Mud Larking on a river just to mix it up a bit.
The first site, had tons of potential but that was it so we headed of to a new site that produced a Victorian penny and a half penny plus a round ball and what use to be a round ball.
The next day I headed to a new site and found the tidal river was so low you could almost walk across it, normally there is 15-20 feet of water in it since they dammed it up. So we did a little mud larking on the forshore as the Brits would say. I found an copper makeup jar lid and an intact and working lantren piece.

The next hunt we had carma on our side. We asked for permission from a farmer and he was happy to grant us 2 fields and he asked us to help him locate a $200 chain he lost last year in another field, of course we said yes. It took about 20 seconds to find it and then we had permission to hunt all his fields. Plus he told us where there were several cellar holes.:icon_thumright:
The first cellar hole we stopped at, the field had high grass all over but we hit it any way I got a target almost right away which turn out to be a George III LC. Then I got another target not a foot away from the coin, which turned out to be a nice large shoe buckle. We looked around a bit longer but soon headed over to the next field that was plowed. This field produced a few flat buttons, a George III 2 pence coin (this coin is massive), and a few other goodies and the find of the day, a cast bronze sword pummel which was my last hole of the day:laughing7:.
I also got half a silver spoon, a broken barrel key and another broken key which may have been for an old tractor.

HH everyone,
ZDD

Nice finds Zodiacdiverdave!

Some decent old relics there. The sword pommel, and shoe buckle frame. I can't seem to be able to "buy" a shoe buckle or a piece of silverware.

May just be my eyes playing tricks, but looks like I can see a harp on the big copper ? Like to see it better.

You have great site opportunities and I'm sure you can pull more from those fields, Congratulations.

The LC on the right has a ship. It's a 1843 New Brunswick coin and the other is a 1797 King George III 2 pence. (maybe just a one penny but it is larger then other LCs).

Sure it's a Twopence and not a penny? Doesn't look big enough in that pic to be the two.

....but massive does describe the twopence, if that's what you got.

It's 36 MM in Diameter and is just under an ounce, I think it lost some weight because I beleive they are suppose to an ounce even. But I can't seem to find a whole lot of info on them.

Nice finds Dave! Looks like you had better luck on day 2 than we did on day 1!

Awesome finds, plus you did a good deed for the farmer. You made his day and he made your day! :icon_thumright:

Nice finds but I'm not convinced by the pommel?? (furniture terminal/finial)

Yes it's a penny. The twopence is 40mm and thicker.

I thought that at first or maybe a fancy ox knob but it was mentioned to me by my hunting partner about the small hole on the side. So I did a little googling and indeed the guard on some designs hooked into this hole and on the one I have I can see the ware on the top side of the hole from the gaurd. I also found an image of a pummel almost identical to this one except this one looks to be silver. I am fairly certain it is a pummel but I am only a google expert and I would love to know one way or the other.

Definitely a pommel! Like you said, the hole on the side is the give away!

Thanks Bill, I will definitely be back, there are several more CHs to still check out plus an old ford crossing that was used from the 1600s to 1850s. Plus we just scratched the surface on these ones.
When I found that chain the farmer started telling us about CHs here and there, and about the history of his land we couldn't keep track in our heads of everything. Who knows maybe some hammered silvers, but I wont hold my breath.

I've got a two Pence that I found on a hunt with IP...they are TRULY massive!
I remember you showing me that and it's in a lot better shap then this coin.
