Hello fellow MDers,

I managed to get a couple times this weekend and while I didn?t find anything Earth shattering, I did find something interesting which linked to the farm origins of this school park I?m MDing. Close to the end of my hunt Sunday, I hit a 86-89 signal at 20cm so fairly deep. Thinking I could get lucky I dug extra wide. While I didn?t get ?lucky?, I did find this.

Obviously knew it wasn?t silver and it was too light but not magnetic (I have one attached to Lesche) so figured aluminum. Turns out to be a T.E. Bissell token.

T.E. Bissell:

With about $3,000 of his savings and a set of plans, T.E. Bissell began to manufacture disk harrows in 1894. When he sold the business thirty-four years later (just prior to Great Depression) he had become the largest disk harrow manufacturer in Canada.

These tokens were given out during farming demos. Why was he a stick in the mud? He was a strong believer in temperance and headed several plebiscites in the community to try to ban liquor. He failed

Looks like I found an older lock too but suggestions on how to clean it up are appreciated. The last lock I tried electrolysis on didn?t fair well.

The only image I see is the lock, other images only say "attachment"

Thank you Hunter! They showed on mine but I had saved the draft before that lock picture so maybe that now breaks the post in Tapatalk. I?ll have to watch for that.

Nice job on the token.

I see the pics now! That's a neat token!

Thanks for the heads up about the pics so I could fix. Appreciate it.

It ain?t much but it ain?t clad [emoji16] I did like the connection this makes to the farm this used to be.

I can't agree any more!! I love finding pieces that tell the story of the land that I'm detecting. Especially if it has historical significance.

Awesome finds!!!

Thanks Elvis. I seem to have moved out of the area I was getting good finds and have reversed direction a little when I found this. Hoping the next hunt this weekend gets me back into the good stuff.

Your token find is an interesting piece of our history here in the north Dallas.
Thanks for posting the history about T. E. Bissell of Elora, a lot of great farm innovations have come out of Canada.

Best of luck to you bud,
Dave
