taking a metal detector on the plane to the USA

This question comes up occasionally.
The general consensus seems to be; definitely inform the airline ✈ directly. They will guide you.
Have a great holiday!
Peace ✌

thanks was going to take the minelab excailbur to florida but was worried about the pressure in the battery

You can travel with detector. Are you carrying it in your carry on or your luggage?

Lithium ion batteries must be carried on. Metal detector itself is personal choice depending on size constrictions.

going on British Airways never been with them did email them but got no answer yet .. will detach battery and put in my hand luggage

I went BA with no trouble - took all batteries out and took my user guide too!
I did keep the batteries with me in case they wanted to see it work and offered to dispose of them before I passed security

good luck!

Going on holiday to the states in july , wanted to know if anyone had taken their detector on a international flight ?? any restrictions

I just came back from the virgin islands and brought my excalibur in a back pack. I had all parts including battery coil and head phones. Everything but my shaft. Had no problems. Too expensive to hope its in my luggage on the other side. HH

I just recently got back from a trip where I took my Excal. Brought it in my carry on with now problem. Left the shaft in my checked bag. Just didn't want them throwing around my detector since my luggage is not a hard case. This was a domestic flight only, but the detector went through there scanner with no problem.

I would do what Happy Hunter did, break it down, put the shaft in your checked bag and carry on the rest. A complete detector in a checked bag is a target for thieves.

All good advice. I have many international trips with no issues. If metal detecting is forbidden at your destination however, Customs might be an issue.
