I am trying to take apart and re-wire the blue Garrett waterproof headphones. But I can't get the 2 halves of the ear cup apart. They are glued together. Has anyone successfully separated the ear cup? This is separating the black plastic ear side from the blue plastic cup part.
I tried alcohol but it really did not attack the glue. Acetone melts the hard plastic. Any suggestions?

Here is a picture of the 2 parts I am trying to separate....

I have found out that soaking the glued seam in 91% alcohol for 12 hours or MORE, will soften up the glue. That allowed me to use a thin piece of plastic around the lip of the black plastic and remove some of the glue. Followed by more soaking. Then the trick is getting something in between the black and blue plastic pieces that will allow you to slowly pry the two apart. Regardless, this is not easy to do and does take a lot of time.

Note that you just want to soak the seam. Do not soak any higher that the seam between the 2 pieces.

Why are you trying to rewire them? Was there an issue?

All of the black outer insulation on all of the headphone wires is crumbling. It can't be repaired, and still end up with a coiled cord. So I thought I would try to replace all of the wires.

I got the two halves separated. I don't think I will continue with the other side. It is really not easy to do. I'd rather be out detecting than fiddling with the headphones. Anyway, the pictures show you the insides of the headphones.

Yep, looks like they're shot. By the time you figure out how to remove the silicone without damaging the speaker, and then rewire it......yeah, I agree..... the cheese ain't worth the squeeze.
