Detector(s) used
Minelab Explorer, Tesoro Cibola, Tesoro Tejon
Hey guys,

I have a used tejon arriving today. IT comes with stock, 5.7 in widescan and cleansweep coil!! Yippee.

I was hoping someone could tell me what size o-rings to get to keep the knobs from shifting so much. Been reading the archives and seems like this can be a nuiscance.

Hurry up UPS guy!

Also..should i stick with the small coil to learn it...? Any tips to shorten the learning curve?

Thanks

I haven't done the o-ring trick with mine yet. Just want to say congrats, you have a great detector!

I don't notice the knobs turning to easy on my Tejon so I don't think this will be a problem for you. Yes you should start with using the smaller coil to get the hang of the detector. The Clean Sweep Coil is a special coil that is best for clean areas to cover lots of ground quickly. Pinpointing with it is simple as with a beep, you slowly move the coil side by side while you pull it back and slowly slide it forward. When you first hear the beep, the coin is just off the tip. Try it on clean ground and you will soon have it nailed when you can see where the coin is.

Hey thanks John

Sandman Thanks for the pinpointing tip...

My minds being blown away by how far this 5 in coil is detecting my wedding band. Gotta be 10 inches w/max sens...how's that even possible..lol..gonna have to read the manual and get to know her an do a proper air test.

I'm very happy...just got to spend some time learning how to use it best while the grounds still frozen.

Congrats on your new purchase. The Tejon is a great machine.
There was a thing spread around years ago that a coil never gets more depth on coins than it's diameter. You're seeing this is not always true. Small coils detect smaller objects deeper. Large coils detect larger objects deeper. There comes a point where the coil becomes so big it may not detect a dime as deeply as a small coil. Yet it may detect a belt buckle much deeper than the small coil. For small coins and jewelry in parks, etc., you can't beat a concentric coil from 5.75 to 8 inches in diameter.

I just got a new one about three weeks ago buddy. It's too cold to use outside yet but I have been fooling with it inside. I find the knobs to be fine right now, kind of a moderate drag to them. Maybe they loosen after extended use. But right now they are no were near spinning in circles if a passing fly farted on them. This one new, is just dandy. I'm going to get the rain cover and that should stop the knobs from being dinged by branches etc. :icon_thumleft:

Yeah...The knobs seem fine to me a well. Ive been fiddling and turning knobs all week in my house...driving my wife crazy with all the sounds..lol...Drove by a sledding hill today that was packed with kids and parents..I just may have to hit it during the week for surface drops with the cleansweep.

I think I'm gonna love this unit...

After all that. I was bored so I slipped o rings behind the dials. :laughing7: It helps to move winter along.
