Detector(s) used
Tesoro Tejon/Minelab Safari/Minelab Excalibur2
I have a Tejon and love it. I have been detecting for 35 years and this machine can go deep and is great at finding civil war relics.

I recently had a slight problem with the machine and sent it for repair under their great warranty. When I got it back the threshhold did not seem to work properly. I sent it back again and they said nothing was wrong with the machine and sent it back to me.

I cannot get a threshhold with the machine since it was sent back. Also, the lower right knob, which is the main discriminator, when turned all the way counterclockwise and clicked down, the detector does nothing. If I run my ring or money across the searchcoil no response. When I move it toward my car it makes a loud high pitched tone about six inches from the car. This only happens when it is turned past the click pooint. As soon as I turn it clockwise past the click it works fine. Main thing is that I cannot get the threshhold knob to do anything, no sound at all. If I cannot set the threshold then I cannot ground balance the machine.

You didn't say you were using headphones or the speaker alone. True it is possible Tesoro didn't fix the problem, but it is unlikely because of their fine service policy. Does it have this problem without the headphones? Have you tried other phones?

If it isn't the phones, I would explain in a letter exactly what is happening when you send it back so they can understand it as you see it.

Good Luck........

Was just wondering how many beeps does it make when you 1st turn it on?

The batteries are good because it makes five beeps. The headphones are also good and I have two sets of them. I just cannot get anything out of the threshhold knob. Turn it all the way clockwise in all metal mode, or with the trigger pulled back which is also all metal mode and nothing, not a peep.

I explained all this to Tesoro and they said that there was nothing wrong with the detector. When I got it back the second time I tried it and nothing on the threshhold.

I used the detector a lot for relic hunting and found some really deep targets. Before I sent it back the first time I am sure that when I clicked the bottom discriminator knob full counterclockwise the detector still worked.

If anyone has a Tejon can you run a quick test for me. Just turn everything counterclockwise and click the main distributor knob fully counterclockwise until it clicks. Then turn the detector on and see if it works. Mine does nothing until held about six inches from a car. As soon as I click the lower knob on it works.

I feel like a fool contacting Tesoro again because they said I don't know what I am doing. However I have been detecting for 35 years and know detectors. Also, had the Tejon for two years and had no problems.

Tried to contact my dealer which was Dixie Metal Detectors but no answer and I think they went out of business.

I tried as you suggested. The only difference I got was that with the main disc clicked was I got a lower tone. Upon turning it clockwise till it unclicked, the tone was several decibles higher. Was still able to detect my ring at about 10-12" each time.
Trying to get the machine to a spot where it doesn't get a signal from wiring, puter, etc. was able to set everything counterclockwise and was able to turn the threshold fully clockwise without getting a tone. The threshold works in conjunction with all metal and by squeezing the trigger while turning it, I did start getting a tone at about 1-2 o'clock.
