This morning I dug this button at about 4". At first I couldn't tell what it was due to the thick layer of dirt covering the star. But I "gently" cleaned it with a brush and exposed all the features. I like to have took off like a rocket. Man I was pumped. This is only my second button and to be in such good shape surprised me. Anyway to say I was happy would be a slight understatement. It's been 7 years since I found the T. Miller Cavalry button so I expect in Jan. 2023..............who knows.

I found out that this is a post Civil War button. According to one book it was produced between 1870-1900.

Too bad it's not CW. But, that is one awesome button any way you look at it! Congratz!

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Nice condition ! :occasion14:

I found out that the Waterbury Button Co. produced buttons from 1849-1860 as well as 1870-1900. So there were pre and post war buttons made by them. I would like to think mine was made pre civil war but it really don't matter. Here's a picture of it cleaned with some jelly along with a flintlock lock plate.
