I had the most stressful day... working like a mule. Nothing ever seems to get done unless I am involved directly somehow. I started my morning at about 4:30am... and put my NiMH battery pack on the charger for when I was going to leave work at 5pm and come home and get my gear to go detecting with my Dad. He did all of the leg work to get permission to a new spot that has Private Property signs posted all over, even though it looks unassuming and park-like. He gave out no less than 6 double sided glossy business cards to each of the board of directors, just in case permission came into question and ID would be requested. This puts him 60 cents in the hole, not counting his time.
I set up the time to hunt early this morning, establishing that I would be leaving at 5pm sharp. Well, as usual there is always some kind of burning log jam at work... RIGHT before I am about to leave. EVERYBODY gets involved and I mean all of the higher ups. I ended up staying until 6:30pm and the firey pile of camel dung smoldered to a red hot glow as everyone started to egress the building, leaving ME the last one to deal with the burning wreckage. The last thing I heard from everyone was, "we'll do it tomorrow morning..."
I'm not sure if you're feeling my flow on this, but on the way home I was not breathing correctly. I had to THINK about breathing to actually feel like I was doing it right.
The whole way home I was thinking... it's getting dark... I'm not sure if I'll have time now to drive all of the way home, and then meet my Dad where he already was at the spot. Upon driving up to my house, I decided... it's go time baby. DO IT, or you are going to be pissed off all night long until you go to bed.
So I met up with my Dad. The sun was going down rapidly and the pressure to get swinging was on. He shows me his awexome silver, and I was REH-DEE TA DODIS-THING. I started walking a line and adjusting my sensitivity as I usually do at a new site. As soon as I figured out what sounded about right, nice and quiet until I hit a good target, I hit a good target. It was a dime signal that I thought was actually going to be a quarter. I'm not really sure why I thought a 12-45/46 at 4" would be a quarter, but it seemed logical at the time. Out popped a nice shiney silver dime. A little spit later and I had my first target and first silver 1958d Rosie dug. I couldn't believe how quickly it popped out! About 12" from my plug, there were two smaller old square plugs where someone had come through recently, most likely without permission. Guess they didn't scan around too well
I kept on gridding a line away from the Rosie and eventually doubled back, and found two wheaties at 4" deep about 6" apart. A 1958d and 1945.
The sun was going down fast, and it was getting dark... mosquitoes were starting to bite and we had to make our way back to the cars so we could go eat dinner. On the way back only the best targets were dug and I only got 3. The first was a shallow 3" memorial under a tree (could of been good), then a deeper dime signal which turned out to be some heavy piece of junk metal. Then a few feet from the junk metal I got another dime signal, which surprised me with a second silver for the night! A 1950d Rosie
So my mood was improved, I had made it to 45 silver for the year (so far). Keep your eye on my Dad's finds... he's going to loot this place good. I'll be cooped up for the next 5 days straight most likely while he's hitting his honey hole
There's basically no trash there... all you do is grid and overlap swings with a nice big DD coil and extract all of the loot!
So Thanks Dad! It just wouldn't be any fun detecting without you.
