Everyone has been really helpful for putting up with helping identify my trash finds lol, was a lil intimidated by the guys and girls with 500-2000 dollar gear, but here's my question. If I talked to a guy at a soccer field and he's pack'n $1000.00 in gear, and he leaves, I went right behind I'm hitting common clad cents and pull tabs. Is this just some fella with a lot of money and no clue how to fine tune a unit? Or just lazy and don't dig looking for "newly dropped" items? Confused me lol you'll taught me, if it beeps hell dig it! LOL

If I get it right, I take the goodies and leave behind the pull tabs and zincs. That's not to say that I always get it right, or that I always get the goodies. Hope this helps. :) H Digs

Let me just say, thank you! I am soooooo glad you leave the bad old pull tabs and clads, and rings, and earrings and nickles and gold and silver and platinum behind for us poor ole diggers. I haven't bought a car with the clad I've found, yet. But, I could've. :) Let alone that 4 carat, tiffany setting diamond on that teeny tiny ring!!!

Thanks!

Just because he has a thousand dollars worth of gear doesn't mean he knows how to use it! He may be a novice just learning or he may be experienced enough to know the difference. My brother hunted with an old White's 4500 for years but, he knew the machine and would out do anybody he hunted with.

I started on a radio shack voyager and to be honest it was awesome and taught me a lot due to being able to adjust the ground, sensitivity, discrimination, and ass auto tune, I still have it ass and can find coke can tabs damn near a foot deep lol

Whatever method you use has advantages and disadvantages. If you dig everything, you are going to dig gold, silver, and all other valuable metals, and you don't need to worry about what you missed. You are also more likely to find a cache which might give an overload indication on most machines. When I hunt older sites I usually dig almost any good signal too. On the other hand, there are times that by selecting what you are going to dig you can cover more ground, and hopefully recover more goodies. One problem is that in some of the urban areas I hunt there are so many pull tabs, screw caps, bottle caps, and foil that if I dug every signal I would be asked to leave and never allowed to return! Good luck with your hunting and continue to post your finds! H Digs

You are welcome! Good luck! H Digs

Yes it's hard to dig everything when you hit a "trash carpet." Every 10th signal is a zinc penny. Woohoo...not.There are a helluva lot more pulltabs than gold rings out there.

Yeah Lord knows there is lol, but hell I'm not trying to get rich, I'm out there anyway I like the thrill of just see'n what the item might be. If it starts to get late, I'll switch over to just non-ferrous and see what pops, haven't found any relic items, lots of olllllld knobs square nails, etc.
