Beautiful 1879 Indian, 1787 Connecticut copper, and what is this clipped copper? also i was able to see that the back is a hibernia, cause i see the harp. Yes I shoveled it in half but it was already clipped, and is this a revolutionary war navy flat button? It has no backmark, and nice tombac

haha . Remember I said I was missing something... did I say obvious too? For some reason the bust struck me (no pun intended) as the 1805. Yes definitely the 1766 (or 1769) which explains why it's Georgivs, and most likely a cast coin. I might feel bad about being wrong, but there's way more to feel bad about to what I woke up to on the ground here... I am done detecting for 2016.

There was two types of counterfeits, struck like genuine coins where the counterfeiter took the time to create a die... and cast, where they used a mold and could use cheaper metal... and the lack of quality is why the coin can crack or break easier. It's not uncommon to see cast coins that have oxidized grey or white from the lead content in them.
