My first spot was unavailable, and I left the pinpointer at home, things weren’t starting well. I decided To hit an old park. I went really slow and listened for the signals passed by others. I went only for deep sounding targets. I got trash, but I also got 4 wheaties and a dateless Jefferson?

While pulling dirt out of a hole, I was surprised by a dime sized flash of shiny. I hoped for a Merc, instead of a Rosie... to my utter amazement, it was 1912 Barber!

It’s got an odd tarnish stain on it. Looks like camo to me, but I might just be a redneck.

A little later this clay marble appeared in the dirt removed from a hole.

It’s my first and I’m quite pleased with it. It’s smaller than a regular marble, and at first I wasn’t sure it was a clay marble. I had it confirmed by TNet marble expert, Cheese. Here it is next to a “regular” sized glass marble, for comparison.

These things are treasure, keep your eyes open for them.

A rough start turned out pretty good today. Keep the course, dead ahead. I ended up with only my third Barber, this year, and my first clay marble ever.

Congratulations...hard to beat an ole Barber and Clay! Nice job!

Nice digs!

I've dug a few barbers with those circular marks in the center, must've been used in some kind of coin operated vending machine back in the day.

Brian

Very good score on the Barber and your first clay marble. I have maybe four in nine years hunting. They are a favorite of mine as they were created by hand. A very personal touch on a cool old relic. Congrats!:headbang:

Nice finds, congratulations! :occasion14:

Its odd that you would mention that. The day before, I dug this 1917 Merc with the same type mark, on the obverse only. I don’t recall seeing this before, now twice in two days... on 100+ year old silver dimes. If anyone knows, speak up.

Congrats on a couple of nice finds Tom. If that camo look on the Barber makes you a redneck, then I'm all in. I think it looks good. If it were mine, I wouldnt even clean it. I always like to leave my coins as I find them. Also like that clay marble. I once dug one out of a hole with a pair of Indian Head pennies. Kind of makes you think about the little boy that lost it.

Congrats on the Barber Tom, :occasion14: I wish I had the discipline to just dig deep targets on public lands, but I don't. Being the frugal guy I am I dig all coins. Who know's what a shallower coin might be masking?

Congrats on the finds especially the Barber. A little paste of baking soda would clean it up easily if that's what you want. I do enjoy finding Barbers. Keep up the good work, Tom.

Nice finds. Think I heard somewhere that those circular marks are from coin counting machines used by banks and such back in the day

Sooooo.......the rare goodies come out at the end of the year?!?!?! I better keep diggin'!!
Congratulations, Tom. Those 2 keepers make for a stellar day!!

Tom , great post and great finds
Love the clay marble !! I’ve never seen one
And nice silver barber too
Keep at it. Hh gl e/c

Cool pattern on the coin. It's art from the ground.
