The Catskills .....New Yorks Newest Ghost Towns
For over 180 years, the Catskills region was America's premiere resort area. Today, only five major Borscht Belt era resorts remain operating in the area despite their close proximity to cities, lakes, parks, golf courses, fishing holes, wineries, and ski areas. In addition, no new resorts have been built there in decades. It is not surprising then, that much of the former vacation mecca has become a series of ghost towns. In fact, the abandoned buildings, empty lots, and overgrown properties are now the region's most interesting sites. How can this be?
