I dug this token while metal detecting at a Wake Forest, NC plantation property. It was near an old stone foundation in the woods. I dug some other items dated late 1800's-early 1900's right by this token, so I'm guessing it is circa early 1900's, but am unsure of the exact age. :icon_scratch:
I was super happy that it cleaned up nicely in hot peroxide.
Attached is also an old postcard showing what the building looks like.
Thanks for looking,
-MM-

***UPDATE: The link below provided by Mack (black & white picture attached now) shows the bank being built in 1912. So now I have a better idea of the date on the token.*** Thanks Mack.

Re: The Commercial National Bank - Raleigh, NC. token (early 1900's?)

Nice find, Doug. Looks like it's in great shape, too.

My pleasure. Somewhere I think I've seen a name change-- and dating that would give you the outside date for your medal.

Re: The Commercial National Bank - Raleigh, NC. token (early 1912)

Here's your other outside date (per Wiki):
In 1957 American Trust Co. and Commercial National Bank merged to form American Commercial Bank in Charlotte, North Carolina.

You are GOOD!!!
So it looks like 1912 - 1957 then.
Thanks so much,
MM

I enjoyed the research. BTW, the bld. was located at 14-20 East Martin Street and was eventually imploded.
Don....

Thanks Don.
Well, that answered that question. I was going to see if the building still existed next time I went downtown. I guess not. :( :'(
Thanks so much. You made this token have much more meaning now.

Nice story, pics and token, Doug

Thanks Ron.
I'm still searching for an old postcard of the building so I can frame the token with the postcard.
