Southwestern Hotel, Caldwell, Kansas​

The Leland Hotel​

The Leland Hotel was at the northwest corner of Main and 6th. The Opera House was nearby, at the southeast corner of Main and 5th. Both date to 1883, if not earlier.​

Caldwell's Opera House​

Caldwell's Opera House was one of five opera houses that could be found in Sumner County; the others were in Conway Springs, Milan, Oxford, and Wellington.

In 1996 the main street and sidewalks were removed for a week. I found 11 Indian head pennies. only 1 V nickle. 9 seated dimes and 6 seated quarters. I found 1 seated half 1845 O. Over the top of that coin was a clay poker chip. A few bullets some dropped and some found their mark. A great week for sure.

Well I just checked my schedule and I go back to work on August 23 and don't come home till September 23rd. Maybe next time.... Sure sounds like fun!
