I am really enjoying my new slightly used CTX here lately. Yesterday I went to one of the oldest parks in town, one that I never bother to hunt because it's just so trashy AND picked over. I've never found any old coins in it before now and no silver at all. Long story short I headed up to a small hill and large tree that I thought looked promising and found a '56 Washington rather quickly. Probably about 9 inches deep, solid signal. Don't find many silver quarters around here (only one last year all year!) so I was very happy to see it. Hunted for a few more hours and dug some clad then decided to hit another park where there were some shade trees! (it were a tad bit on the warm side yesterday, especially out in the sun!). Anywho, picked out two deep silver dimes from amongst bits of nails and etc., as well as several wheaties, and was about to call it quits because I was worn out and soaked from sweat. (not to mention that a 3 silver say was already the best silver day I've had in a very long time!) Walked up the hillside back towards the van and went through a patch that is littered with nails and junk. Had never found anything in it before even though I hit it with the etrac hard with a couple of different coils. I got a pretty iffy signal that a lot of you would recognize as being deep silver (love hearing those signals!). I was thinking dime or trash because it was very faint. Dug a plug about 10 inches and in that plug was one 3 1/2 inch rusty nail, one smaller rusty nail, a beaver tail from a pulltab, and I pinpointed another target in the side of the hole at the bottom. Pulled out some more dirt and saw the rim of another quarter sized silver. It was thinner than the Washington and I didn't recognize what I could see of the front or back so....put it away until I got home and when I washed it off I was excited to see my very first Standing Liberty quarter! I've dug a lot of silver coins, but the SLQ has always eluded me. To have found my first in this very heavily hunted park, deep and amongst the trash makes it even more special. I do wish that it had a date but......hey, silver is silver and the CTX is definitely saving my silver count this year!! The ring was a surface find and is one of those spinners. Unmarked, however, so I don't think it's silver....probably just stainless.
HH to all!!
