A couple of my friends and I live about 45 miles from work so we carpool. We have been carpooling for years so this rise in gas prices isn't what made us carpool but I'm glad we are used to it. Thing is, we are now working 4 10-hour days instead of 5 8-hour days. Makes for long work days, especially with the driving time but, we have cut back 20% on gas use for work.
I also:
Let the house get a little colder
Make a concious effort to use as little electricity as possible by using fluorescent lamps where feasible and turning lights off when not needed.
Use the clothesline more
Get eggs from our own chickens
Can and freeze garden veggies and fruits
We raise our own beef but don't save much as we cannot irrigate and have to buy hay. Still beats store-bought by a mile
Will be baking more bread.....I like doing it but just haven't made the effort to do it more
Wild birds get less feed from me than usual. Never saw a California bird die of starvation anyway.

Recreation, for the most part, involves hunting and fishing so it helps stock the freezer as well as provide good times.
Reload our own ammo, pistol and rifle. May get a shotgun reloader but wouldn't save as much as we do on other rounds. We have so much ammo stockpiled but, with all of the shooting we do, we need a lot. Practice makes perfect. My grandson was 9 this last summer and was constantly hitting a paper plate-sized target at 100 yds. with an AR 15 and open sights. At shorter ranges with his .22 he can put rounds in a 4-inch circle with open sites. He would qualify as a food gatherer.
We, my son's families, and ours can probably get by without a LOT of sacrificing but it's nice to think I'm cheating the fat cats out of, at least, a few pennies.
