Today was fun. . . I had breakfast this morning with Kimsdad, Mayo and Lowbatts and
were then later joined by DP-Bob. We all headed out to a camp that had been impossible
to hunt during the summer because of all the overgrown vegetation & poison ivy so we
thought this might be the perfect place to end the season. . . if it's going to end ::).

I was walking along an old path and got a perfect 88 VDI. . . which I thought would be a
clad quarter. . . I was wrong. . . it turned out to be my oldest and largest penny ever!
When I first held it in my hand, I thought it was a horse rosette until I saw the stars
and the Liberty profile. I had just found my first Large Cent and my oldest coin. . . ever :)

Thanks for looking!

So, it must have not been too deep with solid readings... or?

Great Find Watercolor!
Large Cents are always a good find and yours looks to be in fairly decent shape for being copper in the ground for so many years.

nice very nice indeed

Welcome to the L C CLUB......

What a fantastic find...

That had to be laying in the ground all those years...

Maybe dropped by the first settlers of the property.....or it may have been dropped by a person
building the original house.....

Congrats on your first LC

dp bob --time to get that gal some "anger manangement" classes

That IS one huge penny! Wow, congratulations, Mark! What a way to top off a great year. Seems a lot of people lately have been finding large cents. I walked right over one just over a week ago  :o

It sure did clean up nice, but then all of your coins do using the watercolor method. Sorry I couldn't get out with you, after this week finals are over!!!

Thanks everyone for all the comments. . . every once and awhile (like every 20-minutes :D)
I have to pick that LC up and just look at it and wonder how something that big could get lost.

There was only about 2-inches of snow on path I was hunting and the coin was only about
3" or 4" down however, the soil was fairly compacted. The 88 reading I got was really solid
in several directions which made me think it was a clad quarter.

Take care everyone. . . (still should be a few good hunting days left )
