Last night Ridley and I hit a late 1800’s house downtown where he recently found a number of silver coins this week. (That Dog!!!)
This spot still has old iron in the ground, as I dug up horseshoe pieces and square head nails. Although I didn’t find any “wilver”, I did find a few items that reminded me of “The Godfather” movie. (gun & horse head)
My finds were:

*A small metal (copper) horse head.
Any idea on this item?

*A toy cap gun (Hong Kong).

*A cast metal wedgy looking piece.
Any idea on what this is?

*Older coins included: 194? Nickel, 1960 Nickel, 1953D Wheat.

*Two more hose nozzles. I’m actually starting a collection of these.

Nothing great, but it was fun to get out again. The mosquitoes really missed me.
Thanks for looking,
MM

Thanks Nana.
Shhhhhh, don't tell Ridley about the nozzles being collectable. He's given me a few already. I told him I would throw them away for him, since they were weighing his pouch down too much. :o ;D

The horse head rocks!
The wilver's in there. We'll get the rest!

MM forgot to mention how hot it was last night. When a breeze came it went from blast furnace to convection oven! :D

Great to have you back!

Congrats!

Ridley

Glad to see you are getting out, we missed you more than the skeeters, LOL! The horse head is neat, I can't see how it would have attached to anything, maybe molded to something? The wedgy looking piece really looks like a wax seal matrix to me, the kind that would seal a letter with a wax stamp. Does it fit nicely between the thumb and index finger? It is possible that it had a glass engraving as the seal. Could be 200-300 years old easily. You might post a better picture, that little piece in the middle where the seal would be has me puzzled. HH, Mike

The wedge shaped thing is a tarp retainer. They used to be common in boat covers, etc. On the flat end there was a screw that was screwed into the fiberglass of the boat, oblong grommets were in the boat cover and they went down over your device then the top was rotated 90 degrees, locking the cloth cover in place. Probably 40 were used on a single boat, depending on size. My dad had an upholstering shop and I have installed thousands of them. Otherwise you found some really interesting stuff. I love the pistol!

Thanks Mike. I updated with more/better pictures. I like your idea of a wax stamp.

Gen. B,
Thanks for that info. This piece looks very old though. What were the tarp retainers made of, and how old could they be?
Thanks,
MM

Yes I second his answer, I have found a few in my back yard from the previous owner of the house, they owned a boat from 1958-1965. And mine look exactly like yours. Excellent finds, Happy hunting. Ed

Yep that's what it is. They have been used for a long time. They even had them on some old buggies.

I don't know how long they have been used but I would say a long time. Probably buggys could have used them like Lucky says, as they are a low tech device. The ones that we installed were chrome plated thin steel (I'm guessing the base metal). Yours appears to be taller than the ones we used so whatever material it held would have been thick.

Thanks everyone for the ID on the tarp/buggy grommet. You guys are good!
Have a great w/end,
MM
