XP Deus II v0.6 with 11" Coil
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
We have had some kind of Silver Coin every outing on this field, so that makes a pretty good silver streak for us.
We are still hunting outside of the Roman area & are runs are not as big as before but are still close to 30 minutes each.
It was Cru'dad's time to get both silvers:hello2: & the Roman one was way outside the Site. In fact we have nearly found as many silvers outside of the Site as inside it!

1 tiny Roman Coin
2 17th C Buttons, 1 decorated.
2 Leather Mounts
Broken Lead Cloth Seal
Nice complete Tudor Clothes Fastener (John the Baptist)
Medieval Spur Rowel
17th C Token
1699 Farthing
1670 Charles II Maundy Penny - The FIRST year they started producing 'dated' Maundy Sets.:icon_thumright:
An iron stained Siliqua of Valentinian I circa AD365.

Came up deep, in a filled in Archie trench.(empty of archaeology!) I found one of their trowels!

PS. & the 1670 Penny came from another filled in trench.:laughing7:

You know how they work....ditch the finds layer on the side, hoping for undisturbed soil with signs of archeology. Whats left there is mostly just the lower part of the foundation. Then they put the finds layer back to fill the trench. :laughing7:
At least you got a trowel! I hate to dig their nails, complete with the yellow tag and description. :occasion14:

A few surprises are always welcome.

AD365....amazing. Thanks again for posting, Cru.

Another great hunt Crudad, thanks for sharing. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Great finds as usual! I have never seen these types of penny.

Nice finds. I have to assume a Maundy coin of any age is a pretty rare find.

Thats it.
We are not getting their nails but we are getting their 2ft metal/wire flags.

Any Maundy coin is a rare find, but what makes this rarer is that its not holed.
I have found 6 Maundy coins of Charles II, 5 of which are holed;
3 x 1 Penny (now 4) - 1670, 1671, 1679, 168?.
1 x 2 Penny
2 x 3 Penny

My theory is that if you were given a set of coins from the King, they would have been treated as 'Touch Pieces'. The belief at the time was that his touch was like being touched by God, or as close as. Therefore, however poor they were they would keep 1 or more around their neck as a blessing for them or their family. I suspect that lots of them never went into circulation.

On land we have permission on, they have done us massive favours in the pass, brought up lots of good finds into target range.

Very nice haul Cru, congratulations. In the USA, the "Archies" are a cartoon band from the 1960's. I will leave that there...

We are such a young country, amazed by your possibilities.
If we had better Sites we would be on them, but as this area will be under development in a few years we wanted to at least cover it once.
It also, as you stated add plenty of 'possibilities' from pretty much all periods, which always makes it a little more exciting, as your ranges of guesses have to span them all.

I'm always in awe of the sheer amount of history that you and your Dad recover from the fields Cru.
Love the look of the Medieval Clothes Fastener and the cypher on this button.

Hope you and your dad have another great year,
Dave
