The Monster arrives. And first field test.

Got a call this morning from the dealer my Monster was there. Rain shmain I was in the car and on the way. Had a good talk about it with him as he'd been out with it a few times and loves it.
He knows his stuff and never BS's. Said its ridiculously quiet in the bad ground. When he was out a couple pulled up to say hi and mentioned they had the GM1000's and how noisy they were in that area driving them mad.
He pulled out the 2000 and set it up in a mode thats like the 1000, noisy and getting false signals. They said yeah that's just like our 1000s. He then said look at this and changed mode into the new hybrid one and it was quiet as a mouse. Apparently they looked at each other and said "we're getting the 2000". Unfortunately too much rain to get out with it for a few days here, hopefully Friday. Its rainproof but im not and hate detecting in the wet and rain.
Really looking forward to using this little beast. Its light as a feather, im liking it.

Ah, but land that has gold bits laying around and specimen gold sliding down the hillside is also areas where there are bits of broken nails, hob nails, tiny remnants of rotten old cans, gold coins, ect. Lots of evidence of past efforts to recover gold. In this type of environment, the VLF typically shines on shallow targets compared to the most expensive PI detector that Minelab makes.

A PI detector will break a young man’s back like a potato chip chasing bits of trash. Having the best of both worlds would be game changing if that’s actually the case. It sounds like it might just be a better VLF

Personally I wouldn't back it where I am to chase coins and relics. I wouldn't rate it for that.
Its not in the class though at all of traditional VLFs or anything else out there. Its definitely in a class of its own gold wise.

Another run for 10 bits in a very popular surfaced area.
I think im pretty happy running Auto 2 mode. I just don't see it diminish any faint targets and it runs hot adjusting now n then to lower gain when things get bad. It seems to be seeking to run flat stick wherever and whenever it can and im good with that. You instantly know if its dropped the gain a bit without even looking as you'll hear the volume soften then rise again when it goes high. I did notice a few times when I had lifted the coil off of the ground to put the dirt on the coils under side to find the target that it lowered gain to 8 from 10. No problem finding the target and when back on the ground it did its thing raising the gain within seconds.
At this point im happy to use Auto 2 as my go to, it really works well.
Not convinced about the discrimination side of things as I saw a few gold targets today give a signal that was low numbered and give a slight tail off signal grunt like rubbish but when out of the ground a clear signal. Im only trusting it on surface targets that give clear loud bad signals and fill the bar graph from centre to full left.
Im not trusting it on shotty pellets either as a few also sounded just like a shotty pellet until dug and showed low numbers in the 1 to 3 range just like a shot pellet does. It may be more trust worthy and show more space between the number range in mild ground but im not working any where I am.
Impressive little unit though even if some expectations or hope of being able to diminish the digging of pellets hasn't been realised in actual use. I found the Algoforce failed in that department too. Hotrocks though, certain ones maybe 50% of those I have been encountering do diminish greatly or change in signal after a couple of sweeps of the coil or fully load the negative side of the probability bar graph, im finding that helpful and trustworthy. Some though, the other 50% still have you digging them up or checking them out. Its nothing crazy though and similar to the odd hot rock showing up with a PI like a GPX 5000. It ignores tons of them though completely.

I have a few issues with the Algoforce also, my biggest one is the pinpoint. If I find a target (loud and clear. or even faint) and press the pinpoint button, 8 out of 10 times the target vanishes, and the only way to hear it again is to get out of pinpoint mode, a useless feature. I do not know which video it was on youtube, but the guy used the pinpoint mode and stated only gold was in the higher numbers (20 -40). I found that false, ferrous metal there also, I have a pouch full to prove it. Someone else I believe phasetech said lower numbers were gold, also false, rubbish there as well, so rule out discrimination.
Just purchased the GM2000, any tips for finding the yellow stuff, and less trash.

Love your frank, and fresh reports on what you like and don't like, a great no BS style.
As well, sure do appreciate you taking the time to post your thoughts and reflections on ground conditions, hot rocks, mineralization, various target sounds, differences in modes, volume, sensitivity, no wireless headphones nonsense, etc.
