well, as many of you from northern climates know, it's been a long winter!
conditions have finally come around and detecting season has begun for me
detected an old site with Iron Patch today, we found some pretty great buttons there last fall, so we thought it would be a logical place to start this year
although the site was detectable, the finds were thin and we didnt really find very much
my prize for today was an old silver vinaigrette!
hallmarks indicate it was made in Birmingham in 1843
sadly I cracked the hinge opening it :sad10: but I wouldn't have found out about it if I hadn't opened it, so I guess that's like a karma or something
after all those years in the ground the sponge stayed intact wow!
for me, it was a great start to the year and hopefully more to come!

Nice looking piece IH. Sounds like our friend didn't have such a great first day out :-) I'm sure it won't take him long to hit his stride.

Good to see you got it open and all cleaned up. That's a pretty cool little thing.

And to think I just called Rick the P___k. :laughing7: ...when it's Abe!

oh man, that's beautiful. congrats!

That's a very cool find in great shape too...amazing that the sponge stayed in intact!

That is a very neat piece! Nice age on it too...hope get out with your new business! Can i upsize that lol

Wow that is a great form for a piece of silver to come in.
I expect pretty rare to dig esp. "over here", out in boonieville, away from city life.
Not sure I 've seen another in my time here posted.
Great start.

How come this page is so wide ?

That is a very neat piece! Nice age on it too...hope get out with your new business! Can i upsize that lol

Although I will be busy at work, I really hope get some dig time in, maybe a day or two before the end of June

That's a beautiful piece. It must have been an expensive item back then. Congrats!

Very nice piece of silver ...I would be thrilled to find that !!! Is good to see items like that rescued and looked after.

Glad to see you guys are getting at it after this long winter !!!

Nice start !

Lovely find man ! Outstanding !!! Don't know that I've ever seen another on T-net .

Nice save and good way to start the year. Hope its an indicator of thing to come for you.

Absolutely Beautiful

Gorgeous find, Ironhorse! :) Beautiful craftsmanship.

Sweet looking piece

I've always said "you got to get lucky once in awhile".
One must be thankful such a nice, somewhat delicate piece escaped any plow damage.
As far as the hinge, don't think I'd worry much about that, without any other damage it will display well either together or opened.
I would think it certainly worth a resto, if you know a reasonable jewler. Again not really necessary, it is what it is, and it is a beautiful find.

Perhaps a banner ?, given it's rarity of showing up in the dirt, NONE THAT I"VE SEEN.
here is one vote.
