Well, I went back to freshwater and collected the usual coins but then near the end I scooped this one out. It was kind of deep and a not so good signal but upon seeing the size and old face on it I thought it was an another old copper - nope!
Just a James Polk dollar coin from 2009.
Still it was my first dollar coin so its still cool but I was a bit tricked at first. Beware!

the real unfairness is that we have €2 coins in europe, which are very widely spread and can be found anywhere. €2 = $2.70

these coins add up quickly and add to the profit ;)

Despite being new and clad, these are still fun to find. I have found two presidential dollars so far, one under water and one in a park.

Both times I expected to find two quarters in the hole together instead of one coin.

Nice, I have never found any of those out here, but have gotten 2 Ikes a few Sags and some Suzys. here is the last Ike from last year, hope you enjoy =)

Isn't that the truth- I actually found one over here last year!

I had heard of them but never see them being used, etc.
my second guess (after "old copper") was that it was some kind of a token.
Horrible signal..not even like a nickel but there might have been some junk interfering.

You should of got a strong signal, unless the coin was deep or iron close, as it is over 88% copper (High Conductor).
Easy to check with air test, or find a clean section of lawn without iron, drop coin on it and sweep coil over it.
James K. Polk Presidential Dollar Coin Specifications:
Diameter: 26.5 mm
Weight: 8.1g
Thickness: 2.0 mm
Edge: Lettered
Composition: 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel
Mintage: 46,620,000 (Philadelphia), 41,720,000 (Denver)

Yes I had a5 broken heart when I found my first goldish looking dollar lol.

LOL. I like them. Here there is a local coin that is equivalent to $2.80. I love finding those coins and they are widely used. It's too bad the dollar coins don't take off or are popular in the States.

Right, well it was deep in a slope underwater with other junk around it. True, an air test would probably sound quite nice but the signal was good enough to dig. Just glad it wasn't still gold colored..maybe that would have been worse.

Gold in color would have been worse, but actually gold would have been nice. I have one that's gold plated :)

I put them right up there with a penny !!! To close in size to a quarter and not needed anyway !

Need to quit making both of them !

I am the opposite, I would love to see them do away with paper and go to coin for at least $1.00 and $5.00.... I have no complaints picking up dozens of $1.00 coins...

Exactly - a $5 coin would be great. Pennies, well, don't really add up.

ah the mostly "zinc" new "presidents" dollar --a shameful beast --metal wise --rates right up there with the infamous " zinc cent" except its worth 100 times more.
