I guess they don't talk much outside their circles. All the guys I know love history.

In recent years, I've ignored the growing rift between archaeologists and salvagers. But once again this article ticks me off. It primarily vilifies the treasure hunter and glorifies the archie, YET it uses a photo from a treasure salvage to attract the reader's eye and gain an audience. Hypocrites! We can do more than coexist. We could work together.

My hat is off to Jim Sinclair, Bob Cembrola, and other great guys and gals who are willing to work together!

Three great guys if I do say so myself! We have all taken heat from the archaeological community for daring to defy their Taliban tactics: conform or be blacklisted. Now I am an infidel and pirate and very proud of it!

I think the tragedy is some guy who pays for his personal hobbies with taxpayer’s money...

What I'd like to see is the accounting for the grants they receive. The Roper is a piece of junk. I watched the other day as it navigated the inlet. The darn thing looked like it needed a tow, I could hear the engine sputtering from Vilano. On top of that, they run an Underwater Archeology camp that works The Storm site. It is 10 days long and 2 separate sessions. The costs they charge are outrageous per person. With money coming from different sources, they don't have a lot to show for their efforts.

Yap!.. It's the prefect Crime: Scamming Tourest dollar's, and taxpayer's, and Federal Grants...

But the real crime is: Chuck thinking, he's a real Underwater Archaeologist!!!!

I've attended some his "seminars" and it is laughable his "techniques". It will only be a matter of time when someone is seriously hurt or dead. I watched them hoist a cannon, and there was Chuck on the swim platform reaching out to secure the cannon swinging in the air with his weight belt still on. I wonder how long Chuck would have been able to hold his breath as he lay in the muck with ruptured ear drums?

YOU are so right!!!! "techniques " ...I also attended some of his " so-call seminars ".. But Once, one of
his crew members, or a--- kisser's saw a Speargun, and a Metal Detector in my Jeep.. I was pulled off to the side:
and had a had talk****: ,, and I was called a " PIRATE!... like some one said: the State laws, Forces you to become a Pirate!!!
When You try to do the right thing' with the state.... It turns out' to be the wrong way to go!!

This happens even within our own circles....

Instead of being supportive of investigative efforts, some
individuals with their own sorted agendas attack the person
rather than what really is the motivation of the independent
explorer - (some prefer to use the phrase, treasure hunter)

In Latin it is called Argumentum ad Baculum {I probably spelled it wrong}
meaning attack the person - not his or her postulation or position.

{ "Artifacts belong to the people of Florida"} {Treasure hunters don't care...."

All of these tactics are nothing new and are but a thin veil
the quasi professional group called "underwater archeologist's utilize
to mask the fact that it is simply a control issue for them
and they are willing to attempt to dupe the
public to achieve their own
sorted ends....
