Just off our coast.

USAV Yaquina is a hopper dredge of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Her primary mission is to maintain the entrance bars, rivers, and harbors along the coasts of California, Oregon, and Washington. She is assigned to the Portland District of the Army Corps of Engineers. Her homeport is Portland, Oregon. She was launched in 1980 and remains in service.

That,s a nice picture!I live very close to the lower end of the Arkansas River Navigation System and often get to watch the dredges working on the channel, fun and interesting to observe.A different kind of dredge.

She is a very vital in the mission to keep our port entrances and channels open to navigation in order to keep commerce moving. She keeps a rotating crew and dredges 24/7 when in action. It's always interesting to meet up in the fog or at night, especially since rules of the road designate that dredges always have the right of way. Radio communication at times is essential especially in our smaller harbors. Now someone explain to me again why we can't run our little motors on the beach. ha
