Hello all. Went out today to try a new site that I will say holds a little promise. Only had a little while to hunt. First thing I dug was the flying eagle, which at the time I thought was a indian, not much left of it but its mine, and only the second one i have ever dug. About 5 feet from that was the indian, which is an 1889, thats beat up too as you can see, but its in the display case. Last on the front side of the foundation came the large cent, I have given it a peroxide bath a few times , there really isnt much left of it, I dont think there's any hope for a date. Will be hitting this site again soon. Well thats the goodies for the day, As I said there ugly but there all mine. ;D Thanks for looking

AWESOME...that must of been fun!

I like them great finds :icon_thumright:

Mainer,
Those coins really are eaten up but then again they are old and some of us look pretty eaten up as we age but I hope I don't get that bad. I was wondering if you could share a few thoughts about your two detectors and I'm especially curious about your thoughts on the xlt.

Thanks and good luck, Herb

nice finds if u ask me :icon_thumleft: MR TUFF

I would like to see them once you clean them.

Way to go Mainer !! I agree a great find in any condition. Nice dig
!!!

Mainer,
Congrats on the oldies. Perhaps a lot of fertilizer in the area you dug those? :icon_scratch:

Thanks for the replies everyone. ModernMiner, I have no idea what is in the ground up here I have 8 large cents and I think there is only 2 or 3 that you can see the date. Countless indians are the same. Copper coins just take a beating up here, I always blame it on being so close to the ocean, I dont know if thats why or not?

I think you are going to find many more nice things on that spot.

A good site ! Mainer ! If you get a silver out of there it should be a DANDY ! Up here in acid soil Maine, coppers are so toasted they are usually only valuable for dating our sites ! Flying eagle still on my list ! What was the condition of your first ?? MaineRelic.

Hey MaineRelic, the first Flying eagle I got last fall, it was in a lot better shape then this one, but still in hard shape. You could make out everything on it and the date which was '58, but not a lot of detail. You will get one, Maine is old with a lot of history. Its here we just got to find it.

hey mainer im also from maine and have never found coppers in that poor condition, unless from a salt water beach. what part of maine are you from? oh well like you say their yours and they are great finds. good luck i hope you take some silver or gold out of there it will be in alot better shape , happy hunting and best of luck unclevinn

p.s. ive found around 40 or more large cents and 100s of indian heads and mostly all have good dates, i have a 1811 large cent i found and sent and had it graded its au detail but they graded it f12 because of corrosion. my nephew last year found a flying eagle that graded au for deatail. i have never been fortunate enough to find a flying eagle so well done, and keep swinging and digging those rare ones unclevinn

Hey Vinn. I am from the Bristol area. I was actualy goin to meet up with Justin and Dan last year for a hunt but wasnt able to. Too bad wish they were around for a hunt this year. All my large cents are bad I can only date 4 out of the 10 or so that I have. Indians I can usualy get a date off of but they are most always in bad condition. I'll be looking for your posts this year, hoping we can all find some goods.

Hey Mainer congrats on the FE,that is pretty rare to find.Out of our group I found the first 3 years ago '58 same as yours and in about the same condition. Then 2 years ago my lil' bro' Frenchy found one and then Dan found one and Frenchy got another last year, but before that I had never heard of anyone from Maine finding an FE..I'm sure they probably have I had just never heard about it.Hey Uncle Vinn remember the Defunct Fairground in the swamp? I think those coppers were very comparable.Congrats on all,HH Bootstrap :icon_pirat:
