I was detecting around some old stone walls back in woods today and came across some glass & pottery pieces. As seen I found couple intact bottles.
In all my years of detecting I have never dug these type of wide head nails or tacks?
What was their special purpose?
I'm guessing 1890's era?

Definitely looks like tar-paper roofing nails.

Don't know what the specific purpose was but those are blacksmith-forged square-shanked nails. 1700s or earlier. I have found a few just like them at 18th century sites.
