They're laughing all the way to the bank!

Football negotiations.......it's all about HUGE money.
The Charlie Sheen situation.....it's all about HUGE money.
And I could go on and on.

All this money, it comes from advertising, which eventually comes from our wallets. Given that companies are paying these HUGE advertising dollars, it's obvious that we consumers are getting our eyes gouged out by these companies, and yet we still keep given them our hard earned money so they can keep paying all these over paid actors and athletes. What suckers we are! :laughing7:

The money is why I could care less about most pro sports. However, I am a closet Bengal fan...somebodys gotta due it.
I throw my attendance and concession money to High School and division 3 college football. I just love to watch kids compete because they have a passion for the game.

Re: They're laughing all the way to the bank!

I never really went for sports. I went out for football in school only to attract the girls.

The big money thing doesn't bother me too much. The companies that pay for this stuff also have to face competition in the market place which keeps them from getting too high priced on general goods.

These famous sports "heros" are a lot like famous artists. They get that big money because they bring millions of people a lot of pleasure. Anything that makes a lot of people happy will bring in a lot of money. That's just business.

Are these guys really worth the millions they get? No. But neither is a Jackson Pollock painting (he dripped and threw cheap paint on canvas back in the 1940's-50's) really worth 100 million dollars yet that's what people will pay for a larger one. Imagine, $30 worth of house paint on $10 worth of canvas without any real artistic skills being worth 100+ million dollars (some bring 200 mill). Now if anything is nuts, that is! I hear his paintings are falling apart now due to him using the wrong paints and methods yet people still pay the price! One day they'll be worth billions but probably be held together with SUPER GLUE. Kind of makes ya want to sling paint, eh?

It's all a part of this wonderful wacky (bored) world.

Those that know me might be surprised but I believe that ball players are WAY overpaid. The money that the teams and owners squabble over is not the real amount,, Accounting in sports is a scam.

Re: They're laughing all the way to the bank!

I also could not care for sports. Because of the high price salary that they have to get a average person can not take his family to a ball game to watch because it cost way to much for a ticket. I live on $450 a week pay check and that is for a faimly of 3. How many weekly checks would it cost me to take my family to a game proably 2. I don;t wven watch sports on TV I just spent my time out detecting and CRH......Matt

Yep, it's all about the money. That's why I too could care less about these over-paid and want more people. Takes the fun out of it :-\

Re: They're laughing all the way to the bank!

if you want the product, you pay your hard earned money---well after that, 'they' can do whatever they want with it...LOL

yea I hate the "big money" situations out there but it won't change. people buy, once your money is handed over it is their game to play

That is way too much effort and possibility of permanent disability to get I women.... I preferred using a magnet to attract women :tongue3:

Re: They're laughing all the way to the bank!

Yeah I am in the camp of do not care much for sports . I see family's out here trying to survive on a few hundred a week while working hard , and then see these players through a fit over not getting a few million more . And they really produce nothing of value in the larger scheme of things . I know why most do try to make so much as there body's will only take so much for a few years . But it is just what I call a dream crusher , and no one made them do what they chose .
They talk about these guys to the kids in school like they are some kind of hero , and the kids want to be like the players. But what they do not teach the kids is that they have a better chance of winning the lotto than making it to one of the teams .

I see schools drop programs and even books so they can have a top team in the area . That just does not go over well with me.
And the Men and Women Like my Son and his friends in the Military do what they do and watch as some players complain over nothing but money and as I heard one say last year , he just did not make enough to support his life style so he was owed more ! Wow.

Ok , I will get off my Soap Box and quit griping . But some things just drive me to near madness .

Re: They're laughing all the way to the bank!

What really drives me crazy is that all of these teams and players are subsidized by our taxes, and then fight over profits that do not include paying us back!!

Re: They're laughing all the way to the bank!

Yup, it's a whacky world.
And it's going to get a whole lot whackier in the next few years.

While these sports people fight over their millions, American workers lose their jobs. My wife came home from work tonight and said a company didn't renew a contract so hundreds of people in our area will lose their jobs. This sort of thing happens somewhere in Michigan about every week now. Homes in our area that sold for $150,000 a few years ago go for as low as $40,000 today. Something is in the air? You bet.

Oh, our gas is now $3.65 a gallon. Some claim it will pass $4 this summer.

Have a good un

You think that's bad!? I moved back to Louisiana after 35 years of living in several states and two countries only to find that some parents hold their high school football player kids back in school so they can be bigger and stronger for the next year's football team. Really!! I couldn't believe it when I was first confronted by a co-worker with that tidy bit of news. However, when yet another co-worker told me she had just about given up on her (20-year-old, unmarried) daughter giving her a grandchild, but she had AT LAST come through! Then I believed the football story. Weird folks down here. I do what I can.....
