I dug a 1963 Rosie today that was painted blue,,,one club member said it was for jukebox so the house knew how much was made and how much was spent by the house .,,,,,,,,,Does this sound like it holds water?

Possibly.....businesses did the same with quarters and halves for various reasons like the jukebox and pool tables. If all of the balls didn't come out of the pool table, for example, the proprietor could put his painted coins in to retrieve the balls. Then, if someone else owned the pool table, when they came in to clean out the cash box, they would give the painted coins back to the bar owner etc.

Yeah, I've heard that about quarters. Back in the 60's every once in a while you'd get one in your change that had red nail polish or paint on it - usually not the whole surface, just slapped on over most of it. They called them "juke box quarters".

The business owner would put them in the machine to start the music in the hopes that someone else would feed the machine once it stopped. They would get them back when the juke box was opened, just like packerbacker said.

I used to see alot of this on quarters back in the seventies....don't see that any more.

There's a porn shop in south Jersey that uses painted pink halves as tokens for the turnstile admission to the peep shows.

And? How many of these quarters have you collected? And where does one come by this particular Knowledge?
LOL

Yeah Don Jose!
He wrote with such authority on the subject I assumed it had to be some kind of first hand experience!

Does that answer the question: What do MDers do in the winter?

LOL,
