I found this ring buried deep in the rocks and muck at a local lake. Was out as deep as I could get away from the normal high traffic areas. Could barely dig it and took about 15 minutes to get out. It came out with some tarnish but may have been there for years. A little Dawn and it cleaned up pretty well. Stamped 18k. Weighs 17.87 grams. Hope it’s real. Also does anyone know the symbol. No idea what it stands for. Appreciate your thoughts! 317B183B-0720-4615-BB21-F3B4EA8F1D0F.webp5666C50F-7872-4A8A-AC27-451234306E95.webp9F3863ED-5145-4D48-B94B-6C2319AAC4B9.webpB8896151-4B00-4F8D-B76D-D33D07F99779.webp1A40C5EE-2207-4F5A-8C2E-C0230C5B0F15.webpE9E0780B-5701-4BD0-A14F-63A4026A39CE.webpD041EA01-ED37-417C-BFA3-F48B7C7657CA.webp

Ive found 9k that look like that.

chub

Ive gotten 9k and 10k discolored and caked but in salt water usually
think ive gotten 10k in fresh water rocks with slight discolor but it will usually clean and shine
with baking soda
ive had fakes marked 14k which will shine after cleaning but after a day will dull or discolor again
which gold wont do

I hope you have the real deal, but the clunky workmanship and design is typical of the many varieties of fake gold rings stamped 18K used in various scams. Here's just a few recent ones:

4f.webp 5f.webp 6f.webp

Many people report that there is an 'East European' connection to whatever scam was being operated.

Damn, that’s a hawg. Nice job

hope it test real :icon_thumright:...ive found close to 1000 gold rings and have never seen an 18k ring discolor though

Thanks Casper-2. I’m definitely skeptical due to the same belief that 18k wouldn’t tarnish that much if at all.

Digging that honker out should magically make it GOLD,, but it looks like 18K BRASS to me.
Congrats on a nice ring.

Thanks against the wind. I agree with you it is now gold no matter what and the buyer will give 100% melt value lol.

Now they is an awesome ring!! Aren’t you glad you spent the 15 minutes to dig it out? Haha

No discoloring so far a day later.

Thanks Red-Coat. They look a lot shinier and bright then nine but do look very similar otherwise. Do you know what the symbol is supposed to be?

Absolutely. Even if fake it will be quite the conversation piece.

I think it's just a 'pseudo-insignia' of a nondescript type and purposely without any initials... intended to be non-polarising to a potential buyer.

big beautiful ring even if its a different metal look at all the fun you had finding that sucker what a thrill

Thanks makes sense.

Not liking the odds from the looks of it but if it has been buried deep for a long time, no telling what kind of chemicals/contaminants it has been exposed to.
Silver for instance is well known to usually come out of the ground pristine but I have found some chemically trashed silver.

Silver never comes out of the ground pristine here in FL.

Nothing does except gold.

I have found change that is worn thin as paper... corroded to bubbly cookie.

Silver comes out black as night... IF been down in salt for awhile... it will be caked.
