I never said it was junk so I have to agree with you :icon_thumleft:. I guess I was more relating to the 56-56 Spencer cases and the antler more than anything. Granted I am sure there are more minie balls out there. I just have to find them. I am sure once all those nails and iron are removed I will find some more items. I should be coming home next year for my mum's 70th. I may have to bring the G2 with me and knock a few fields out. :occasion14: And have a pint or two....or three.....

Thanks Trent!! Barely scratched the surface I think, unless it is all downstream. Next trip should confirm/dispute my deductions. Of course if it has washed downstream and collected in one spot, that would be a bonus.....

Persistence pays off! Good Job! Most people are not aware of how vast, and how much area it takes to search especially in Wy. GOOD LUCK HUNTING!

Thanks OD!! Far from done here. :icon_thumleft:

Kuger,

Yep!! I forgot to mention it. It is in three pieces having literally fallen apart in my hand. It was is very wet, clay-like soil. The metal at the breaks is black in color. It almost looks like cheap cast pot metal. The cap has a patent date on it of March 30 .68. Any ideas?

Sometimes things like that are treasure in it's self...............cool finds........HH

Hmm,I cant recall seeing a Patent date on the Powder can caps I have dug/seen dug?I did a quick search for that date in 1868,but didnt come up with a whole lot?Maybe Big Cy,or somebody else that is good with Patent searches can narrow it down?

Thanks! I will try and get a better photo of the cap. There is a circular design on it too.
