Dunno. Looks like it's one half of it though. either lead or pewter from the look of it. more decorative than functional.

Possibly part of the handle of a wax seal?

Possibly a wine cork decoration?

It looks like it's brass and it would be one half of a finial. And from the size maybe for a lamp? HH
