Nice finds! The house looks structurally sound, any chance you could get inside to check out the cellar?

The basement is fully cemented, and its not as strong as it looks, the owners son was living there and started tearing off the plaster inside to find the bricks all crumbling and falling apart, they decided it wasnt worth the money to fix it,. They are gonna knock it down and fill it in, i hope they do a little dirt removing out of the front yard when they grade it out after demolishion!!

In my younger days, I was rather brave (READ: Shtoopid), I would climb into old, dilapidated houses/barns that would literally sway in the wind. Thankfully I never got hurt beyond a few scratches but some of the stuff I found made it seem worth the risk.

The last thing found, so very many years ago, were two hand carved Mallard decoys and few tobacco cans, still have one of the cans. Best of luck on the rest of the hunt.

Its amazing how much more we become"chicken" in our old age,LOL They have pretty much taken everything out of this house and now its just waiting for the dozer!!

Nice finds. If this house was built in 1850, you'll need to dig a little deeper for the older coins. Start digging those iffy signals and you should start pulling older coins.

I think the buckle is actually a buckle cover or protector. Someone will be along that knows for sure.

The flooring alone in that old house is probably worth a small fortune. I salvage materials from old historic houses all the time ,,,,you'd be amazed what some of it is worth. Old growth , wide, tounge and groove heart pine and chestnut flooring sells for big bucks...not to mention the sill beams and other old growth lumber. It is very desireable stuff and today's "farmed" lumber doesn't even compare to it as far as strength , durability , and longevity.

Sad to see an aloder homestead be torn down, but such is progress...While they do that why don't you have them take the first 2 or 3 inches of topsoil off for ya? Now that would be nice of em'. Keep at it and dig everything...Congrats on all the finds so far though. :icon_thumright: jgas

That's a shame they are going to tear down that Grand old house. Nice finds, Congrats, I'm sure you're going to find lots more goodies at that site.

Nice hunt! I love those old places too......Looks like that was a hospital at some point in time. Hope you get to go back again after the demolition!

Good Luck,

Nice finds, the place looks promising for more goodies. Detect again after it is dozed. I sure hate seeing old houses like this demolished. Good luck and keep us posted of your finds.

I'd love to have a house like that for a getaway...

Any chance for YOU to buy it.....and then hunt it at your leasure.
Dont forget that field next to the house.....going to find some coins in there, for sure. :) :)

No it wasnt a VDB but i still like finding the old wheats!!! I plan on hunting this place alot more. I have permission to hunt all the property around it as well. This was part of a town that was platted in 1837 but was never really developed. I will have to wait til the corn is harvested before i can do to much stomping around in there. Speaking to the landowner he said they have never found much in the way of rocks or anything that would suggest much activity in the area. They are thinking that there was a cabin on the property but thats about it!
