Not sure Travelar. Pretty worn down to a scraper form and they used scraper to the end of their times. It may have started out as a Brewerton or something and they just plum wore it down. It was is good material to be able to keep reducing it down though. Nice rescue for sure.

I think it is a large end scraper probably early. I believe it was made like that and the wide end is the working side. Its a nice example.

The thing about Tools like that is they could be from any culture. They could be thousands of years old or only hundreds depending on what type of artifacts are found associated with them.

That is a nice find. The county dump where I live is also on historical grounds. The dump has destroyed a recognized quarry here. Why do you guys say this piece is a scraper rather than an adze? It looks like quite a bit of time was put into making this tool. I'm not after a long debate here, just a short and sweet answer.

I was thinking along those lines too. It looks like a Flint Adz or Celt.

Thanks Reap. Not that a scraper is a bad find. Bad finds do not exist. I just feel like an adze or Celt has a little more prestige than a scraper.

The way this tool was made tells me it was hafted in the manner of a celt or adez, the blade end has a angle that was made to cut not scrape.JMO Nice find for sure:thumbsup:

Most of my friends also think it is an az, it is about 1.3 inches thick, both ends are worked, none of my friends have ever seen one like this around here. they have a few smooth celts .
