Well I recently found myself in the Keys, weekend before last to be precise and I had some new spots I wanted to try out. I hit a couple spots and found a couple pieces of junk jewelry, coins and the usual trash mixed with a lot of iron, but no gold or even silver for that matter.
So I tried one last spot that looked promising and I was a pretty long way off shore, maybe 500+ yards, yes yards not feet. I dug this out in two scoops and when I first looked at it I knew it was junk, but when I rubbed my finger over it and saw the gold color and what it actually was I had in my hand my heart jumped for a second. I had to do a double take to quick see if it was really junk. It had me smiling and laughing about it all day long. Heck I'm still laughing about it. I'm so used to hunting for modern treasure that I really forget that there is some real treasure out there to still stumble into, granted not in the areas I primarily hunt though.
Anyway it's a cheap replica of a Spanish gold coin, but it was still really fun to find it especially in the area I found it in, because it could have just as easily been the real thing and the notion of it having been real is what still has this grin on my face.
I hunted 3 different locations and I could not pull out one gold or silver, man times are tough. Well I say no silver, I need to check my coins, I think there may have been one silver dime in there, but I have not confirmed that yet. My finds pouch is still full sitting on the front porch waiting for me to clean it out.
