I walked several miles today, lugging the ole detector in hopes of finding an old camp on the abandoned railroad bed. I was lucky to actually find one. Ironically, all the "cool" stuff I found was on the surface. I swung the detector for several hours but didn't find anything too exciting. Some buttons, bullet casings, a little this and that. Above ground I found two Journal Box Covers: a Central Pacific Rail Road 1875, a Morgans Louisiana & Texas Rail Road, The V Cutter tool, 1886 V Nickel, and three intact bottles. It was a great day and I am now five pounds lighter.

Thanks for looking.

My kind of finds, love it. Can't walk that far anymore though.

Great set of finds. Heck if you can find that all on the surface, who needs a detector.

That nickel is worth a big buck WTG

Dig until your arm falls off

is the little bottle an ink well? or maybe perfume?

Yes, it is an ink well. They seem to survive better than most bottles out here. Most of the bigger bottles look to have been shot for target practice, by WWI soldiers.

Thanks to everyone for the comments. It is hard to believe that no one ever came through and at least picked up the journal box covers, as they are fairly large. I hope to get over there again one of these days but it is a HARD walk, up and down two canyons.
I was excited to find the nickel, and it is in pretty good shape. Just starting to learn about some of these coins, but I have enjoyed the education.

Kodiak--I would definitely go for a walk if I were you. Pretty cool stuff found along the old RR beds. Good luck.

thanks again,
Kinley

Those a 2 nice western whiskeys!! Sweet finds, congrats!

Nice finds. Glad all that walking paid off. Is that V nick a key date?
