I walked several miles today, lugging the ole detector in hopes of finding an old camp on the abandoned railroad bed. I was lucky to actually find one. Ironically, all the "cool" stuff I found was on the surface. I swung the detector for several hours but didn't find anything too exciting. Some buttons, bullet casings, a little this and that. Above ground I found two Journal Box Covers: a Central Pacific Rail Road 1875, a Morgans Louisiana & Texas Rail Road, The V Cutter tool, 1886 V Nickel, and three intact bottles. It was a great day and I am now five pounds lighter.

Thanks for looking.

Nice finds! what's a V Cutter tool?

Nice Liberty Nickel worth $200.00 at the least and maybe $400.00.

great find and right on the surface!! excellent find

Fantastic! Thats dedication!

I believe it is a type of hand plane (I could be wrong). It is cast, but I only found one half or face of it. The other side was missing. Still pretty neat. Thanks for the comment.

Great stuff! I am jealous of you folks farther west where it's dry. Leaves iron relics and many other finds in great condition.

This was a great post to read and see. Thanks!

Best Wishes,

Nice finds el remolino.

That V-nickel is in nice shape...:occasion14:

That nickel must have been dropped a very short time after being minted! What is the 1875 rr piece? The slot on the one end almost looks like it could have been a tenderbox cover.
