This time of the year requires so many things being done before our winter hits, that its hard to get out and detect. We only have a few more weeks left before the ground freezes so it gets frustrating. I did get out for a few hours this week. Once on the back of our property and once next to an old church. Our property gave up an ox shoe, nice silver plated 1/2 ladies butterfly buckle, pocket watch key and some buttons. The church yard produced a 1920 merc and three little indians, a 1904, 1905 and one that shall remain known only to God. Also found an odd shaped piece of iron. I am thinking that it might be a Martingale breastplate piece. I would appreciate any input on this one. It is about three inches across. Thanks for looking...Lance

Hi Timmy, that is the pocket watch key. I have found about four of them over the years. They were used on early pocket watches to wind them rather than the stem on the end as was done with later ones. Take care...Lance

Nice finds, at first I thought the key was an old handcuff key, but a closer look at the other pics and it's definitely a pocketwatch key.

Congrats, thanks for sharing with everyone.

Nice finds. Love those IH's. Best speculation is that the IH with the unreadable date is an 1877. :D

Nice finds Lance glad to hear your still getting out up there.

Heart shaped loop could very well be a center piece for a martingale...mine is a 2 inch plain brass ring...
