Thompson Lane Treasure May Still Be there

Thompson Lane in Nashville, Tennessee, is a major arterial corridor connecting areas like Nolensville Pike and Murfreesboro Pike in the central and southern parts of the city. Named after the historic Thompson family (who established the 640-acre Glen Leven Farm in 1790), the road has deep historical roots tied to the Civil War and the Battle of Nashville.
Today, it is a bustling commercial and residential stretch featuring local businesses, public spaces, and community hubs.

It sounds to me like there was no treasure to begin with, and Jenkins made it up just to mess with his cellmates. It wouldn't even make any sense for him to make the offer in the first place. If he was going to get out and need money, wouldn't he just go retrieve it himself, rather than have two other guys get it first and maybe give him half (or maybe just take it all and run)?
