Thought I struck gold but then it turned out to be silver - maybe?

Little over three hours and got a bunch of coins. Tried the water but only got bottle caps and my scoop is too short - I wound up in pretty deep - not my intention. The beach was loaded with pieces of metal.

Towards the end, I pulled up what I thought was surely gold. Got to the car where my sons determined it said 925 - and "something else". Got home and the something else said China. I really never had a piece of silver jewelry from China. Think it really is? So should I put a smiley face? or a frown?

I hated to leave - well, there is the next time.

If it is stamped 925 then it isn't gold. Darn.... you had me worried there for a minute. Nevermind it was a much better hunt than I had this morning. I love the bracelet! The challenge is still on. ::)

Hi Mumszie: I meant - even though it is stamped 925 - I never saw sterling coming from China and had heard that there are some pieces being stamped that are not silver. So, I wondered if I had even silver.....

Well unless you plan on selling it.... I would say that if it is stamped 925 - then in my book - it's silver!

yep, it's silver, i got a ring the other day stamped 925 china, too. I guess they weren't happy with us having our own jewelery too. ::)

Nice hunt, that's a nice looking piece of jewelry, silver too WTG

most likely its gold electroplated 925 silver --- a sterling silver (925) based chain with a thin gold coating that makes it look like a gold chain --- it "better" quality inexpendsive chinese jewelry --although china is famous for "faking" stuff (esp silver "collectible" old coins)--- thus stamping (925) which stands for sterling silver on a item would not be beyond them-- I think its most likely 925 silver with a thin gold coating ---once the coating wears thin it becomes apperant its not gold to everyone however as the silver shows thru --- do a magnet test (silver is not magnetic) and see what it rings up as on the detector ---- say nickle bouncing to silver (because of the gold plating and silver content ) if its legit --- Ivan

I sell silver at our local flea market. A LOT of the silver I buy from a place in Cal. is marked made in China. I'm not happy about it,but you buy what you can sell. Mike.

the style is juicy contour...its popular with the kids kinda like gucci prada etc do a search, if its a knockoff then hopefully its silver..if its real its silver and may be worth a little more because of the brand name

It is a nice looking piece of jewelry regardless. congrats

If it looks like gold, but is marked 925, it is plated. Yes, China makes fake silver dollars out of nickel ( I bought a bunch of them.), but keep in mind that some jewelry made in China is very "high-end." I've seen Chinese businessmen wearing 24K gold chains, and I'm pretty sure they got them in China. Finding jewelry made in China may not always be a bad thing. Anything is better than the junk I've been digging up lately, and silver is worth its weight in silver. Good find!
