I found what appeared to be a fence post, but upon further inspection I thought the holes looked too small to be a fence post. It’s been buried under wet muck for no telling how long.

I found it in front of what is looking more and more to be an old homesite. It’s out in the middle of nowhere in the Florida panhandle, very near a heavily used trading path that had been in use since before the Spanish arrived.

It measures 3” x 4”.

I’m hoping that it may be part of an old cabin,

Could very well be a fencepost. The holes indeed appear to be small for wood rails but would work for wire. Wire has been used since the late 19th century, I believe, so it could still be an old post. It appears heavily weathered before it became buried. The wood appears to be southern hard pine, identified by the dense latewood in the annual rings.

Nice piece of wood :icon_thumright: It would make a cool wall hanger. Nice I/D, too!

Another thought is the cross wood piece from an old telephone pole that had glass insulators or the porcelain screw in ones.
