Tried a swimming hole this morning without much success so on the way home, I stopped at a basketball court to check out the grass around it. I hadn't gone 5 feet along the court edge when I found this crucifix. At first looking at it, I figured it to be plated at best and didn't think much about it until I got home and pulled it out of my bag. It had a bit more weight than I had originally thought so I cleaned it up and checked it out and sure enough, .925 and 14k stamped on the back. So it counts as my first jewelry, silver and gold finds, all in one. Amazing what you will find in places you have hunted before. This must have been lost recently since I've hunted this basketball court edges 3 or 4 times in the past month. It was under the grass clippings so may have been newer deposit....
After searching the rest of the court, I went back to where I found it hoping to find the chain but no luck....
I've got a PI detector coming next week, maybe I'll give that a shot at finding the chain....
Oh yeah, $1.69 in clad and one wheat, 1942 I think.
